I will shortly be taking a Pre Calculus class and I am not sure how to prepare.
Is there a good way of preparing for a Pre Calculus class? I am kind of afraid of Math in general and hope to find a way of preparing for such a class. Please help, I am trying hard!

Pre-Calculus is not like any previous high school course you've taken, however there is no need to be afraid of the course. There are concepts from the previous courses that you will delve deeper into through this course. I would definitely brush up on Trigonometry. If you don't have your notes from taking trig, then I would suggest looking into a spark notes version of a formula sheet. Aside from going over your trigonometry, stay on top of the work you're doing in class. If you feel yourself falling behind, don't hesitate to ask for help!
Hope this helps.

Pre-calculus is just what it says, it is the course students take before they begin calculus. The foundation for calculus is algebra, geometry and trigonometry and all other mathematical concepts that you have been exposed to over the years. In Georgia, if you have taken math 1 through math 3 then you have been exposed to practically all of the concepts needed to do well in precalculus. In your current class, take good notes and keep a notebook filled with lecture notes and homework problems. Ask questions and become part of a study group that meets regularly to discuss and analyze problems. Be willing to put forth the extra effort and before you know it you will be the one everyone comes to for help! Take care.

Calculus is a new world, and the preparation for it is primarily for the purposes of making algebra and trig more fluid, so that when dealing with calc problems, you are wrestling with the higher concepts, rather than wrestling with the more basic mechanics.
My recommendations would be:
Look at Logarithms
Look at Trig
Look at Quadratic Equations again
That's most of the curriculum. Best of luck.

Hi Tony, Pre-Calc will really hone your algebra skills, especially manipulating equations. If you're worried, it's a good idea to brush up on solving equations, especially quadratics and equations with fraction components. The advise to look over your Trig basics, is also good. If you can borrow a copy of the text book before the class starts, reading the introduction and the first chapter can also be very helpful, but it's by no means necessary. Finally, keep track of how long your homework takes you once the class starts. If you find yourself getting stuck or taking a long time with every assignment, that's the sign to ask for help. Pre-Calc can be a fast course, so the sooner you get questions answered the better. All of that said, if you did well in your Algebra and Trig classes, you'll likely do well in Pre-Calc too.

Study trig. Get a unit circle and learn the basics before going in. If there is anything I wish I could have told my 16 year old self it would have been: Leah learn trig reaaallllllyyyy well, because it will come and bite you in the ass many more times to come. Other than that just know that you'll be building on your algebra skills.
But more than anything else, always keep in mind that math is all about logic and problem solving. There are a lot of numbers and jib jab involved, but its nothing to be scared of, you use the same techniques that you'd use in solving math problems everyday, never forget that you are completely capable of anything and everything!

Hi Tony! You could always get a study guide to give yourself a headstart. The Calculus for Dummies book is a good one.
