Special Needs: ?
I have taught all levels of Spanish (beginning through advanced), and am currently working on my dissertation at Harvard University. However, for me, the best part about getting a PhD is working with students to develop their language and critical thinking skills. Through tutoring, I have been able to help students (high school, college, and adult learners) improve their Spanish language skills, as well as become a mentor to some of them. The variety of students I have worked with have shown me that the best approach to teaching is one that is tailored and customized to their needs.
Teaching is what I am passionate about. I have privately tutored for the past 6 years, mostly in Spanish, but have also provided help with writing (English and Spanish) and college admissions essays. Students have described me as down-to-earth, patient, and engaging. I think learning should be a fun and interactive experience. I strive to create that scenario by genuinely getting to know my students and taking into account their interests and passions when I design my lessons. At Harvard, I have been awarded a prize for distinction in teaching each semester I have taught. I have also worked with the College Board in the grading of the Spanish AP exam.
I am originally from Puerto Rico and fully Bi-lingual (Spanish/English). In terms of degrees, I have a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Haverford College, an M.A. in Spanish from Harvard and am currently a Ph.D. candidate there as well.
During my free time I enjoy reading, watching movies, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with family.
