I am a 22-year-old Howard University student from New York City, NY; majoring in English, with a minor in Secondary Education and would be most helpful in the areas of reading, writing, and grammar. I can also assist elementary school aged children with basic mathematics and biology. I have been tutoring small children for approximately three years, as well as spending my summers assisting high school juniors with college prep/readiness through an organization called College Summit. During the schools "off-season" I assist my aunt at the YIA; a day program for high-functioning adults. I am very good with children of all ages and am able to meet the specific educational needs of children. Many tutors focus on feeding their students infromation, instead of taking a minute to listen and learn what that students particular need may be. I believe that in order to best help my students, I have to be able to see what they see in order to find the disconnect with the material. As a future teacher and in my previous years of tutoring, I've learned that it is sometimes best to let the student teach you how to teach them.
