I taught undergraduate English, Liberal Arts, Poetry and Composition for five years at the University of Mississippi, as well as graduate writing classes in the MFA program. I have an MFA degree from New York University, where I also taught. I am a novelist, with two published novels, The Total View of Taftly, brought out by Hill Street Press, and Waiting For April, brought out by Algonquin Books. I have reviewed books regularly for The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and others. I am the main lecturer and workshop leader for a very successful writers workshop.
I've tutored in philosophy, english, writing and speech.
I studied under the philosopher Richard Swinburne at Oxford, and Leszek Kolakowski at U of Chicago, two absolutely legendary thinkers. I studied under Rick Moody and Lydia Davis at NYU (literature and writing), both of whom are about as highly regarded as any writers working in America today. I have recommendations from Rick and Lydia, available upon request.
About teaching: I'm passionate, highly experienced, and I know what works. What works varies, depending on the student. But one thing is constant—teaching means something more than conveying information. It means mentoring, and it means inspiring.
