My name is Maureen Darcy and I am a French-Linguistics major/ Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Minor in my fourth year at New York University. I have extensive experience living and studying abroad in France: In high school I stayed with two French host families (one week in Nice and one month in Aix-en-Provence, respectively) and in Fall 2011, I studied at NYU’s campus in Paris, where I also stayed with a French-Algerian host family while taking classes at the NYU Paris campus, the University of Paris III Sorbonne-Nouvelle and the University of Paris VII Denis-Diderot. My enthusiasm and dedication to my studies of the French language and culture is very high and this manifests itself in my strong work ethic and overall inquisitive demeanor. I have extensive experience as an English as a Second Language Teacher to adult immigrants in New York City, and have also worked with high school students at Flushing International High School. I hope to pursue a double Masters next year in Teaching French as a Foreign Language and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, where I would spend the first year at NYU’s campus in Paris and the second year in New York City. Being a tutor provides me both valuable professional experience in the field of Education but also with the means to share my passion and the gift of foreign language study with others.
