I have always been very passionate about education - my own and that of others. I have extensive tutoring experience. Immediately after graduating from Cornell University, I worked as a director at SCORE! Educational Center. As a SCORE! director I tutored children from grades preK-10th on a variety of subjects including reading, writing, grammar, math, science, and spelling. It was also my responsibility to use positive reinforcement and rewards to build students’ confidence and motivation. At SCORE! directors are more than just tutors – they are also mentors and role models. I also worked in Seoul, South Korea as an SAT reading and writing prep instructor and curriculum developer. This was one of the most challenging and enriching experiences of my life. It was an opportunity that allowed me to really grow as a tutor because I got to work with students of various ability levels and with various levels of English language proficiency. Additionally, I have also spent the last two summers working as a teacher's assistant for my doctorate programs Gross Anatomy class - I get to lead the gross anatomy lab, deliver review sessions, and tutor students individually!
My educational philosophy centers around the idea that when students believe in themselves they will go on to accomplish their goals - educational and otherwise. In order for each student to have the necessary level of confidence I believe it is necessary for children, parents, teachers, and schools to form a solid partnership based on good communication and a genuine desire to see each student succeed. As a teacher or tutor I always strive to be a role model, exhibiting a positive attitude, energy, and determination when delivering my lessons. My students frequently say they are inspired by my genuine enthusiasm, and always feel comfortable asking me questions about topics they do not understand. I believe it is this combination of passion and accessibility that has made me a successful educator.
