I am a recent Ph.D. graduate with experience in teaching university students as well as tutoring one-on-one with high school and middle school students in Language Arts, Social Sciences, academic writing and study/research skills.
I was fortunate to receive my undergraduate degree at Vassar College, a liberal-arts college that placed great emphasis on collaborative learning, student research, and close work with faculty. I am committed to bringing that philosophy of active engagement to my own teaching practice. My chief aim is to help students learn to think critically and independently through discussion and exchange of ideas while developing their skills as researchers and argumentative writers in class assignments and papers. My diverse experience as a tutor, teaching assistant, and instructor for classes in anthropology, international studies, geography, psychology, and general social sciences has prepared me for tutoring a variety of courses. My consistently high teaching evaluations (available upon request) point to the effectiveness of my pedagogical philosophy.
In my experience students learn and grow best when they are supported in the exploration of their own ideas while being guided as these ideas take shape. I hope to be able to bring this teaching philosophy to you or your students.
