Special Needs: ?
As a student, I found myself frustrated with the education process. I was taught the methods, not the reasoning or the background much less the need. While I survived high school ( 1600 SAT, 3.84 GPA), I entered college to discover the same methods and giant classes. With a 4.0 in the first two years, I finally decided that I needed to really learn instead of repeat rote processes. So my GPA dropped to 3.5 but I really learned, and this excitement has never left me.
While working full time, I was honored to attend Stanford Graduate studies in Communication Theory. I completed my prelims, orals and thesis for a doctorate but my thesis was classified and I was unable to defend it.
I have started 6 companies, sold three, bankrupted one, and hold onto one. The last is offshore and is held by the government pending litigation.
I have 21 patents and an additional 4 filings.
I have been tutoring or mentoring all my life. Most of my students have been the children of friends. I enjoy seeing the "light turn on" as they assimilate a new concept that has escaped them with the rote learning process. One fine young man who was based in Florida, was struggling with math, history, biology and English. Within 3 months, he was recognized as the most improved student in his school and scoring at the top of the 8th grade! I was so proud of him. We worked to lift him from detention to this recognition. He was also a student at the Bolletieri Institute and I had the privilege to work on his tennis as well.
I have had two former students go on to Berkeley, and one to Stanford.
I look forward to learning about your student and developing skills to give them the confidence and knowledge to succeed.
