Alrighty, folks! Here we go:

My most specialized area for tutoring is Music. I am 18 years classically trained as a violinist and began teaching violin at Poe Middle School when I was in seventh grade. I was a member of the American Youth Philharmonic and spent three years in the top orchestra of the Hawaii Youth Symphony. I have directed multiple choirs in Hawaii, Mississippi, and Virginia with great success. I play several other instruments and am currently studying voice in college.

My next best area is reading/writing/grammar. Having spent two and a half years in Seton's home school program, I have become VERY good at essays with a VERY simple formula. I am also fantastic with grammar and greatly enjoy teaching it, strangely enough!

Elementary, middle school, and basic high school math are strong points of mine. I have had a solid year of experience tutoring algebra and it went quite well.

Beyond that, I am confident in most elementary and middle school subjects and tend to be fine with basic high school courses. Study and organizational skills are topics that I integrate with ANY subject I am tutoring. I believe that it is very rare that a student "can't learn something." Rather, it is the way in which they are trying to learn that hinders them. Once a student becomes familiar with his/her academic strengths and learning styles, and embraces his/her limitations, academic progress will come far more rapidly.

I am fun and casual with my students AS LONG AS there is a sense of mutual respect and an awareness of priorities. I am quite comfortable with providing a firmer structure for students who aren't quite able to provide it for themselves. I am flexible and patient and more than willing to bring supplementary materials if it will help the student solidify his or her understanding of the subject matter

My greatest goal is to foster a positive learning environment for my students, not only in their surroundings, but also in their minds.
