Special Needs: ?
I am currently pursuing a New York State License in teaching at Long Island University. I have completed 2 semesters of a master's in education and I have passed the LAST and ATS-W Secondary School exams. I anticipate finishing the program in 2013.
I have a PhD. in organic chemistry. I have taught recitation and lab classes in general chemistry as well as organic chemistry at New York University and York College. I have times in the evenings and weekends to tutor in the New York City area. I have tutored students in basic reading and writing as well as basic math like algebra. I have experience tutoring high school and college students so they are who I plan to tutor. I have worked for several tutoring agencies in the past with being paid from the No Child Left Behind program as well as private funds. I like to find out what a student knows first with a diagnostic test before doing further tutoring. That helps to let us know how many tutoring hours will be needed and the frequency for tutoring needed. I like to be kept up to date as to what subjects the student is currently learning in class and then I can tailor my lessons to the student's needs. This avoids teaching subjects too soon when the student is struggling with an earlier subject. At the end of the tutoring sessions, a test is needed that I will make challenging enough so that the upcoming tests for the student in class will be not very difficult.
