Hi I'm Steve,

I use popular songs to teach a variety of concepts. I love to explain music theory and incorporate ear training into my lessons. Most students have a strong idea about what they want to learn so I try to follow their lead whenever I can.

I feel that music is one of the greatest gifts to mankind and I’m very lucky to be able to pass on such a joy. I believe anyone can learn to play guitar, bass, sing, or song write as long as they are willing to put in the time. I think it is very therapeutic and can be an incredible outlet for anyone willing to dedicate a few hours a week.

Here's my bio from my website:

I started going to Arizona State University for jazz guitar and decided around the 4th year that writing music was my real passion. I then studied with the world-renowned arranger/composer Mike Crotty. After finishing a degree in music/business and writing songs for rock bands, and a sextet I took off for Brazil for 4 months. I spent 2 months and Rio and 2 checking out as much of the rest of the country as I could. I tried to absorb the culture and the language and develop a strong understanding of their rhythms and melodies. I returned to Arizona for 2 years to keep studying and working on my guitar playing. I taught and played gigs all over the valley and also did a tour around the U.S. playing lead guitar for Beehive the 60’s musical. I put together my own group called The Mighty Six. It had six pieces, baritone sax/keys, tenor sax, trumpet, guitar, bass and drums. The group was seen on Good Morning Arizona playing several of his compositions. One example of that project is entitled Zombie March.

In early 2009 I had the rare opportunity to teach music in Bermuda. Who could say no to that? After living there for half a year, conducting a jazz camp, writing songs for a female rock lead, recording a jazz duo album I decided it was time to try NYC. I settled in Brooklyn.
