Hello! My name is Melissa and I am a certified ESL teacher who teaches a first grade ESL class in a public school. I have been teaching for 4 years. I graduated from Saint John’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education, and I completed my Masters of Science degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages) from Saint John’s University as well. I also furthered my studies and attended Touro College to receive my Special Education extension certification. I am certified in Early Childhood, Childhood, ESL, and Special Education. I have worked effectively with 4th grade students in preparing them for the ELA and Math State tests, as well as improving their reading, writing, and math skills. In addition, I have been working successfully with an autistic kindergarten child in improving his academic and social skills. I have also experience in teaching and working with Pre-kindergarten, Pre-school, and Toddler aged children. My goal as an educator is to foster and maintain an open, honest, communicative, and supportive classroom, in which each student feels safe, secure, special, and appropriately challenged.
