I am a recent graduate of Bates College (B.A. in psychology) who has extensive tutoring experience dating back to high school. I have worked with students of all levels, from helping elementary school students improve their reading skills to working at a teaching assistant for college courses. I particularly specialize in teaching high school reading, writing (creative and analytical), and vocabulary, as well as general study skills and SAT/TOEFL/SSAT preparation (verbal and writing sections only). I am also able to provide assistance and feedback on college admissions essays for high school seniors.

I believe that it is important to help students develop academic skill sets that they will be able to carry with them throughout their education, and am therefore not the kind of tutor who will simply provide students with the right answer. Instead, I challenge students to develop new ways of thinking about and approaching problems so that they will see long-term benefits beyond getting a good grade on one assignment. At the same time, I think it's important to make education interesting and, when possible, entertaining.
