About Scottsdale, AZ
Reflecting the spirit of the American southwestern culture, the beautiful city of Scottsdale, Arizona is a populous suburb near Phoenix that is popular as a tourist and travel destination. The majestic, arid, and rugged Paradise Valley borders the city on its eastern side, a popular natural attraction in and of itself. The community of Scottsdale is considered to be quite upscale and offers popular shopping districts for residents of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The city has even been dubbed “a desert version of Miami’s South Beach” as a bastion of fashion, glamor, and affluence.
In spite of its current posh reputation, Scottsdale is in fact an ancient settlement with a deep history. It was originally inhabited by the Hohokam Indian tribe from 300 BC to 1400 AD. Over the course of their 1700-year inhabitation of the region, this fascinating culture built sophisticated irrigation canals and cities before mysteriously vanishing from the region.
The city began to take on a celebrity status in the late 1930s when famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright began to spend his winters there at his home and exclusive school, Taliesin West. Because of his residence and influence, much of the city architecture reflects his iconoclastic style. Now, the city is the sixth largest in Arizona, with a population of 240,410. It is known to have a high quality of living and was even named “Most Livable City” in 1993.
Scottsdale is comprised of several regions and neighborhoods, including: South Scottsdale, Old Town Scottsdale, Central Scottsdale, and North Scottsdale. Surrounding cities include: Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Glendale, Fountain Hills, Peoria, and Santa Maria.

About American History
The subject of American history is one of the prominent focuses in the history departments of American colleges and universities. Typically, American history focuses solely on the history of the United States of America. Although the history of the United States is quite young compared to Europe, Asia, and Africa, there is a great deal of written documentation, oral history, photographs, and motion pictures that bring American history into focus, and as a result, many students of history spend their entire academic careers concentrating solely on this branch of historical studies.
Within the realm of American history, students usually learn first about prehistorical man and Native American cultures. After that, American history begins to focus on the European influence on the continent, the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the 20th century. Some of the formal topics include: westward expansion, overseas expansion, diplomatic history, military history, technological and industrial history, cultural history, history of the south, civil rights, and women’s history. Because there are so many topics contained within the study of American history, many people find it beneficial to work one-on-one with an American history tutor.
Whether you are a young child, a teenager, a university student, or a professional adult and are seeking help in American history, our tutors can assist you.
