About Richmond, VA
Known as “The River City” for its location on the famed James River, the city of Richmond is the state capital of Virginia. Though its city population is only 192,913 residents, the entire metropolitan area of Richmond is quite densely populated at over 1.2 million residents, making it the third largest metropolitan area in the state.
Although at first glance the city of Richmond seems like a modern and cosmopolitan city, complete with a wide and burgeoning skyline of hi-rise and mid-rise skyscrapers, the city is actually steeped in history. Historians trace the origins of the city back to 1607 when English Jamestown settlers originally settled it. The present city, however, wasn’t founded until 1737. The city was a critical city during the Revolutionary War, with the famous "Give me liberty or give me death," speech given by Patrick Henry in 1775 as well as several appearances by Thomas Jefferson. Richmond, of course, has long been a bastion of politics, not only for Virginia, but for the entire south as well. In addition to being Virginia’s state capital, Richmond also served as the capital for the Confederate States during the Civil War.
Today, the city’s focus is quite diverse. In addition to remaining a governmental city, Richmond is also known as a financial city as well, considering that it is only one of twelve cities in the entire United States that hosts a Federal Reserve Bank. There are also nine Fortune 500 companies located in the city, a staggering number considering the smaller size of the city.
Richmond is home to several key neighborhoods, some of which are quite old. They include: Byrd Park, Manchester, Fulton Hill, Tobacco Row, The River District, and Westover Hills among others. Some of the surrounding towns and cities include: Westham, Lakeside, Laurel, Glen Allen, Ashland, Bensley, Highland Springs, Hopewell, Chester, Bellwood, Mechanicsville, and Walthall.

About Spanish
The Spanish Language is an Indo-European language and a Romance language that, along with French, Portuguese, Italian, and Romanian, is directly derived from Latin. Spanish developed in the Spanish region of Castile and is sometimes referred to as Castilian, especially when differentiating the Spanish spoken in Spain as opposed to the Spanish spoken elsewhere in the world. Spanish was spread around the globe as a result of the exploration and colonization of the Spanish Empire. Today, the language is spoken in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, and Africa, making it the second most natively spoken language in the world, behind Mandarin Chinese. In America, Spanish has become one of the most taught languages in schools, mainly due to the fact that the United States is in close proximity to the Spanish speaking country of Mexico, as well as the fact that Spanish-speaking minorities are the fastest-growing minorities in America.
The Spanish language uses the same type of Latin alphabet as English, and the two languages share some similar words in their vocabularies. In order to master the language, however, students must study the Spanish vocabulary, grammar, syntax, word order, pronunciation, and expressions. Although prospective students of Spanish have the opportunity to study the language in colleges and universities, hiring a Spanish language tutor to teach the various study topics can be a great advantage.
