About Pasadena, TX
The city of Pasadena, Texas is located on the Gulf of Mexico. The city’s founder, John H. Burnett, who thought that the land area looked similar to its California counterpart, flowing with flowers and lush floral landscapes, named Pasadena after Pasadena, California. In fact, the word “Pasadena” in Spanish is loosely translated as “land of flowers.” The city is often considered to be the birthplace of the state of Texas, since one of the most decisive battles in the Texas Revolution was fought near the location of Pasadena, with Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna being captured at nearby “Vince’s Bayou.” To this day, the city of Pasadena, Texas features several popular historical landmarks and attractions within the city that mark this historical moment.
Pasadena, Texas’ nickname is "Strawberry Capitol," due to its optimal farmland from growing berries. Every year, the city holds an annual Strawberry Festival, which is attended by residents and visitors alike. The city’s economy is also based on industry and manufacturing, with the city’s proximity to the Houston Ship Channel providing many job opportunities for residents. The nearby National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is also a large employer, as are some of the city’s academic institutions, such as University of Houston–Clear Lake, San Jacinto College, and Texas Chiropractic College.

About High School History
The subject of history is one of the oldest and most central subjects taught in schools throughout the world. The focus on history at the high school-level is usually quite expansive and concentrated on for all four years of the curriculum. The study of history is the study of the written record and scientific and archaeological discoveries of the past, particularly as it pertains to the human race. History has been written about even since the ancient times, when written record and oral tradition was all that early historians could rely upon. Today, history continues to evolve based on the work of previous historians as well as new means of preserving historical fact, such as photography, sound recording, and motion pictures. In high school, each semester is usually devoted to one specific period or culture.
Because history is extremely wide-ranging, covering all geographical areas of the world as well as every period of human existence, there are many subdivisions to the study of history. In addition, history is no longer studied in the abstract: now the subject of history is often interlocked with other scholarly subjects, such as religious studies, philosophy, literature, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, political science, and musicology. Within the discipline of history, students must also learn concepts such as historiography, social history, literary history, period history, gender history, people’s history, and geography, all of which are introduced at the high school level. Because history is so far-reaching, many students find it advantageous to work one-on-one with a history tutor.
