About Oakland, CA
If it wasn’t for its famed professional football team, The Oakland Raiders, as well as its baseball team, the Oakland Athletics, the city of Oakland, California could be easily forgotten amidst all of the beautiful cities of California. Yet, Oakland possesses an intriguing past, an impressive present, and a promising future. Rand McNally ranked the city of Oakland as having the best weather in the entire United States. This award is owed in part to the fact that the city sits in between San Francisco and San Jose, so that it is generally warmer than the former and cooler than the latter. Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge, the city is cooled in the summer by the fog from San Francisco Bay, yet its inland position usually leads to the burning off of early morning fog, making for exceptionally beautiful, sunny, temperate days.
Sometimes called “Oaktown," Oakland is home to one of the largest seaports on the west coast, providing the cities of San Francisco and San Jose with essential products. The city is also home to several major multi-national corporations, such as Kaiser Permanente and Clorox, as well as several other major U.S. commercial manufacturers. The city is also quite diverse, with well-established Latino and Asian neighborhoods. These influence lead to an eclectic blend of culture and heritage: throughout the year, multi-cultural celebrations illuminate the city.
The city of Oakland is comprised of several neighborhoods that are grouped according to districts. They include: downtown Oakland, East Oakland, North Oakland, and West Oakland. Within these districts, some of Oakland’s neighborhoods are: Adams Point, Chinatown, the Diamond District, Laurel, Glenview, Lakeshore, and Melrose. Some of the surrounding cities include: Oakley, Antioch, Concord, Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Alamo, Danville, Clayton, Rodeo, San Pablo, Albany, Lafayette, and Piedmont.

About High School English
The subject of English is taught at every high school in America and encompasses both the study of English-language literature as well as English writing skills. Because both reading and writing skills are essential to literally every other subject taught in academia – including mathematics and the sciences – a great deal of time and resources are spent in high schools to ensure that students receive a comprehensive education in this subject. English writing courses usually involve writing concepts such as composition, organization, sentence structure, and research.
In the realm of studying literature, students at the high school level are typically exposed to a very wide range of Literature, ranging in time period, language, and culture. American literature is always studied, however British Literature is still far more focused-upon. The emphasis in high school Literature programs is to help students fully develop their reading comprehension skills and, at the very end of high school, students are introduced to literary theory and criticism, which is concentrated on much more heavily in college English courses. Although these topics are always offered in English departments at U.S. high school, it is a good idea for an English student to work one-on-one with an English tutor who can help them to grasp the important concepts of these topics, since poor reading and writing skills can significantly hurt a student’s performance in college.
