About MAT Test
The Miller Analogies Test, or MAT, is a standardized test that is sometimes used by colleges and universities in the United States to evaluate prospective graduate students. Similar to the GRE, LSAT, or GMAT, the MAT often serves as one way that a graduate admissions office evaluates a student’s academic knowledge and aptitude. The MAT consists of 120 questions take in one 60-minute timeframe, all of which are centered around measuring an individual’s logical and analytical reasoning by offering a series of partial analogies that must be correctly completed. This is a similar method used on the GRE and SAT, however the MAT covers a much broader range of topics and information, spanning science, music, literature, philosophy, mathematics, art, and history.
While the GRE is generally favored by graduate schools over the MAT, it can be an asset to a prospective student to offer a high MAT score alongside a weaker GRE score to demonstrate that the MAT format is more favorable to the test-taking abilities of the individual. As a result, working one-on-one with an MAT tutor can be a tremendous advantage.
