The genre of opera is one of the highest forms of art music in the world today. Opera has a long tradition in European classical music, specifically in the countries of Germany, Italy, and France. Unlike other forms of art music, opera brings together several artistic elements, such as a music composition, a poetic text (called a libretto), costumes, acting, stage sets, and sometimes dancing.
