About New Orleans, LA
While perhaps not the largest or most influential city in the United States, the city of New Orleans is no doubt one of the nation’s most unique as well as one of the most world-famous cities. Founded in 1718 by the French Mississippi Company and populated early on by Franco-Arcadian settlers who migrated from the Province of Quebec in Canada, New Orleans stands as the capital of Louisiana, the most French-influenced state in the Union. Its French culture, combined with African and Creole customs, has blended over its long history to create a city culture unrivalled by any other in the world.
New Orleans is famous for many things. Its celebration of Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday” as it is translated, is taken from a common Roman Catholic tradition celebrated throughout the world where worshippers celebrate abundantly before the beginning of the holy season of Lent, which is marked by fasting and abstinence. The celebration of Mardi Gras encapsulates all of what the city of New Orleans is famous for: it highlights the city’s “Dixieland” music, which is perhaps the most primordial form of what it now known as “Jazz,” its spicy, flavourful Creole cuisine, and its reputation for partying and nightlife.
The city itself is located on the muddy Mississippi river and has been home to one of the busiest seaports in America. It is also in close proximity to Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Borgne, and the Gulf of Mexico. These three significant bodies of water contributed to the near-destruction of the city in August of 2005 when Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city and decimated its population, driving many of its inhabitants to leave the city and relocate to more inland communities. The culture and identity of New Orleans, however, is undying, and the core of its residents is working diligently to rebuild the city and return it to its greatness. In recent years, many national developers have bought up abandoned land in the city’s limits and are planning large-scale development of commercial, industrial, and residential projects, which will eventually help to bolster the city’s struggling economy.
The neighborhoods of New Orleans are known as “wards,” and include: the famous French Quarter, Central City, Uptown, Mid-City, Lakeview Area, Gentilly, and Bywater among others. Surrounding cities include: Chalmette, Violet, Belle Chasse, Estelle, Arabi, Verret, Marrero, Westwego, Kenner, River Ridge, Metairie, Gentilly, Laplace, and Destrehan.

About GMAT Test
The Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, is a standardized test that is given to prospective graduate business studies students. Similar to the GRE, many business schools in the United States use the GMAT in order to evaluate the knowledge and aptitude of applicants who wish to earn their MBA degree. In the United States, the GMAT is administered via computer at professional testing facilities.
There are three major sections to the GMAT test: a verbal section, a quantitative section, and an analytical writing assessment section. The full range of scores on the GMAT is from 200 to 800, with the majority of students scoring between 400 and 600. While there are no set requirements for what one must score on the GMAT in order to be admitted into MBA programs, the rule of thumb is that the more prestigious the business school, the closer to 600 or above the score must be. As a result, working one-on-one with a GMAT tutor is the best way to prepare for taking the GMAT exam.
