About Los Angeles, CA
No city in the United States better represents the unique culture and lifestyle of the west coast than the sprawling, majestic city of Los Angeles. Spanish for “The City of Angels,” Los Angeles is home to over 3.5 million people, and yet you’ll never find a more relaxed, parochial metropolis in the world than Los Angeles. Similar to New York City, Los Angeles is a city comprised of many neighbourhoods, all of which have their own specific identity. But unlike New York, Los Angeles comprises a huge area, stretching over 450 square miles in size. The expansiveness of Los Angeles allows for a diverse natural landscape. Sandy, pearl-white beaches mark one end of the city and provocative plateaus. This beach culture of Los Angeles, personified by towns like Malibu and Venice Beach, seem like a world apart compared to the communities that skirt the Santa Monica Mountains, such as the famed Beverley Hills, home to the stars, as well as Hollywood and Silver lake. Neighborhoods like Eagle Rock, on the other hand, still retain the desert charm that harkens back to the now urbanized San Fernando Valley that the city is built upon.
The surrounding cities and communities near Los Angeles also reflect the lifestyle and culture of this great city. Cities like Anaheim, San Bernadino, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Costa Mesa, Oceanside, Corona, Hesperia, Victorville, Santa Clarita, Palmdale, and even San Diego all bask in the magic glow of Los Angeles. There is an aura of glitz and glamor that seems to prevail throughout Los Angeles and all of its surrounding neighborhoods and cities that will make you feel like a star.

About Painting
Painting is regarded as one of the highest forms of the visual arts. It can be said that painting is the oldest forms of artistic expression in the history of the visual arts, dating back to early cave paintings created by early man. In virtually every period of human civilization, the tradition of painting has continued to progress. It is a complex and painstaking art form that requires a great deal of patience and commitment in order to become a true master.
While there is an undeniable art associated with painting, there is also a craft that must be learned as well. Before one can paint, they must also be able to draw, as all serious painters compose, sketch, and research their subject before actually painting it. Many painters even paint what are known as “color studies” prior to beginning their main painting, in order to understand exactly what colors and textures they need to use in order to achieve the result they are looking for. In addition, there are a myriad of different painting techniques, such as glossing, glazing, fresco, and stippling, all of which use different kind of brushes and mediums. Within the paint medium, there are several different choices as well, such as oil paint, water-based paint, known as acrylic paint, and watercolor paint, all of which create different tones and textures. Also, some painters, such as the famous Wassily Kandinsky, choose to create non-figurative art, which is more abstract in its subject, whereas other painters, such as Vincent Van Gogh, chose to paint figurative art, which resembles objects or people. As you can see, painting can be a life-long pursuit.
