The city of Inglewood, California is located in Los Angeles County and serves as an important suburb for the city of Los Angeles, with 115,208 residents. Although the city was not officially incorporated until 1908, there is evidence to suggest that Inglewood has been settled for many years. The well known natural springs in today's Edward Vincent Jr. Park (known for most of its history as Centinela Park) most likely attracted native American communities to the area, as well as the first Spanish settlers, who came to Inglewood as early as 1781 in order to graze their cattle on the land. By the time the city was incorporated in 1908, it was the fastest-growing city by population in the United States and had become the chinchilla farm capital of the United States.
