About Track and Field
The term “track and field” refers not just to one event, but rather to an entire field of sporting events that are held in and around running tracks and the interior field within them. Running and track and field events are among the oldest competitive sporting events in the world; they were the first events offered by the Greeks in the original
Olympic games. All track events involve running, however different distances and objectives require different running abilities: some events are quite short and favor runners who are capable of quick bursts of running speed, whereas long distance running events favor runners with stamina and dexterity.
Field events take place typically in the interior section of a track and include a wide range of sports that require different skills. The long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault all require both sprinting and jumping ability, which throwing events such as the hammer throw, javelin, and discus require a great deal of upper body strength. Regardless of which track and field event you wish to master, working one on one with a track and field tutor can be a tremendous advantage to your training.
