About Golf
The sport of golf is one of the most popular leisure sports in the world. It is a sport that first originated in Scotland, but has quickly become a sport that is played in warmer, tropical climates. The objective of golf is relatively simple: the golfer uses a golf club to strike a small ball across long distances in order to shoot it into a cup-sized hole in the ground. Although the objective is straightforward, the athletic mechanics involved in hitting a golf ball are quite complex. Different stances and swings must be used in conjunction with various types of golf clubs in order to hit the ball accurately and with appropriate lift. Once the ball is near where the hole is located – known as the green – the gofer uses yet another type of club and swing called chipping in order to get the ball in close enough proximity so that it can be lightly putted into the hole.
The mechanics of swinging a golf club are somewhat like that of baseball, in that it involves a great deal of technique and hand-eye coordination. Many golfers spend their entire lives seeking to perfect their swing, so that they get the maximum amount of velocity on the ball. As a result, for those who wish to work on their golf swing, chipping, putting, or other aspects of their golf game, working one on one with a golf tutor can be a tremendous advantage.
