About Ancient Greek
Similar to Latin, the language of Ancient Greek is a language that is no longer actively spoken. It represents the historical stage of the Greek language as it is known today, and was spoken in Greece between the 6th and 9th centuries BC. As a result, it may seem surprising that Ancient Greek would still be a language seek to learn, since it hasn’t been spoken for more than 2,500 years. Ancient Greek, however, is a crucial language in the study of various subjects, such as history, religion, philosophy, linguistics, archeology, anthropology, and ancient literature among others. The language is subdivided into several dialects, with the Homeric Greek dialect being one of the most commonly studied, since it allows students to learn and read the Homeric poems in their original language.
Ancient Greek differs from other European languages, ancient and modern alike, in that fact that the language uses the Greek alphabet. In addition, students must also develop skills in vocabulary, diction, conjugation, reduplication, verb tenses, and phonology in order to master the language. Because this language is quite rare, help from an ancient Greek tutor can be a great advantage to learning this language quickly and thoroughly.
Whether you are a young child, a teenager, a university student, or a professional adult and are seeking help in ancient Greek, our tutors can assist you.
