About Augusta, GA
Located on the beautiful Savannah River, the impressive city of Augusta, Georgia is the second largest city in the state, behind Atlanta. Known affectionately as “The Garden City of the South,” Augusta is known for its lush parks and foliage as well as its charming and distinctive southern architecture and cityscape. The city’s 195,182 residents live amidst a community whose motto is simply, “We feel good,” a reflection on the genteel, serene pace of life that can surround even a mid-sized metropolis like Augusta.
Given Augusta’s proximity to the Savannah River and other large bodies of water, one of the city’s largest employers is the Savannah River Site, an energy-producing facility run by the Department of Energy. The U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon and the Medical College of Georgia are other major employers as well.
While the city does not host any professional sports franchises in any of the four major spectator sports, Augusta is home to The Masters Golf Tournament, which is arguably one of the three more prestigious PGA golf tournaments in the United States. The tournament is held at the famous Augusta National Golf Club.
In spite of its smaller size, Augusta is also a very cultured city, possessing an orchestra, ballet, Choral society, and a score of other stages for music and theatre. The city is also home to the Morris Museum of Art and the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, both of which are frequented by visitors to the city.
Some of the surrounding towns and cities include: Thomson, Grovetown, Peach Orchard, Evans, Martinez, Belvedere, Aiken, Gloverville, Beech Island, Gracewood, McBean, Clearwater, Colliers, Fort Gordon, Blythe, and Windsor.

About Speech
The study area of speech is wide-ranging and involves both the science of speaking as well as the craft of oration. From a scientific perspective, speech encompasses the physical and neurological processes of producing perceptual sounds that are used in spoken languages. Because this particular process is so complex and involved, the study of speech transcends several scientific study spheres, such as acoustics, speech pathology, linguistics, psychology, and cognitive science. In this particular study field of speech, knowledge of computer science is often required as well, since modern-day computer programs are often used to experiment and analyze speech patterns.
The study of speech, however, can also refer to the study of oration. Oratory, or the art of speaking in public, has existed since ancient times. It is widely accepted that the Greeks and Romans were the first cultures to perfect the art of oratory, as it was a critical ability that politicians, philosophers, and other high-profile leaders had to possess in order to be effective in their position. Today, the art of public speaking is still a valuable tool, and many high-profile leaders in the world must hone their oration skills in order to meet the demands of the intense media scrutiny that exists in the world today. While courses in rhetoric and oratory are sometimes offered at the college level, many students opt to work one-on-one with a speech tutor as well.
Whether you are a young child, a teenager, a university student, or a professional adult and are seeking help in speech, our tutors can assist you. Our professional tutors have advanced degrees or extensive training in speech and can tutor and help in subject areas such as acoustics, speech pathology, linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, computer science, rhetoric, oration, oratory, communications, and public speaking.
