About Augusta, GA
Located on the beautiful Savannah River, the impressive city of Augusta, Georgia is the second largest city in the state, behind Atlanta. Known affectionately as “The Garden City of the South,” Augusta is known for its lush parks and foliage as well as its charming and distinctive southern architecture and cityscape. The city’s 195,182 residents live amidst a community whose motto is simply, “We feel good,” a reflection on the genteel, serene pace of life that can surround even a mid-sized metropolis like Augusta.
Given Augusta’s proximity to the Savannah River and other large bodies of water, one of the city’s largest employers is the Savannah River Site, an energy-producing facility run by the Department of Energy. The U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon and the Medical College of Georgia are other major employers as well.
While the city does not host any professional sports franchises in any of the four major spectator sports, Augusta is home to The Masters Golf Tournament, which is arguably one of the three more prestigious PGA golf tournaments in the United States. The tournament is held at the famous Augusta National Golf Club.
In spite of its smaller size, Augusta is also a very cultured city, possessing an orchestra, ballet, Choral society, and a score of other stages for music and theatre. The city is also home to the Morris Museum of Art and the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, both of which are frequented by visitors to the city.
Some of the surrounding towns and cities include: Thomson, Grovetown, Peach Orchard, Evans, Martinez, Belvedere, Aiken, Gloverville, Beech Island, Gracewood, McBean, Clearwater, Colliers, Fort Gordon, Blythe, and Windsor.

About Literature
The subject of literature is one of the oldest and most revered fields of study in colleges and universities in America and Europe. The study of literature is usually contained within the subject of English, and involves a wide array of courses that delve into the many areas that literature has to offer. The study of literature is sometimes divided into genre studies, and concentrates on the various literary genres, such as novels, short stories, poetry, and drama. Other literature courses focus on particular cultures, such as English literature, Irish literature, and American literature. The study of literature can also be studied according to historical periods, such as 18th century English poetry, Medieval literature, and classical literature. The study of literature makes use of various reading methods, known as literary theory.
Literary theory draws upon many other fields of study, such as philosophy, religious studies, history, linguistics, sociology, psychology, political science, and the arts in order to better understand written works. Some of the various literary theories include structuralism, formalism, Marxism, feminism, post structuralism, new criticism, and reader-response criticism. While these topics and disciplines are typically offered as formal courses in English departments in college and universities throughout America and Europe, many Literature students find it beneficial to work one-on-one with a literature tutor in order to better grasp these complex concepts.
