About Anaheim, CA
Like Santa Ana, Anaheim is a largely populated city located in the midst of the famed Orange County, California. Unlike other cities, whose local identities usually eclipse the counties they preside over, the identities both Santa Ana and Anaheim are often subsumed into the almost mystical identity and reputation of Orange County. Anaheim, however, is a formidable city, and it is seeing rapid population growth and commercial expansion, particularly within the two neighborhoods of the Platinum Triangle, home to the city’s sports areas, as well as the affluent Anaheim Hills.
The city of Anaheim has not always been a simple component of Orange County. It was founded in 1870 by German pioneers (thus the German-sounding name), and soon became known as a major industrial center in California. The city went on to be a major manufacturer of electronics, aircraft parts, and canned fruit. The mid 1950s saw the establishment of Disneyland, which helped to transform the city into a world-class tourist destination. The city is also home to several sports franchises, including the Anaheim Ducks ice hockey club and the California Angels baseball team. The Los Angeles Rams football team also used to play in Anaheim, but the franchise has since moved to St. Louis. Today, its tourism, together with its balmy climate, contributes to the strong identity that Orange County is known by.
