What is a good book to prepare for the SAT test?
I have a Test Prep question. I am looking for a good book or good books to prepare for the SAT test. Do you have any suggestions? Also, are there good websites to use in order to prepare for the test. I am located in Seattle and I am trying to see if I can self-study for the test by using a good book. Thank you. Silvia

The best book to use, in my opinion is the The Official SAT Study Guide (by The College Board) along with the Kaplan 12 Practice Tests for the SAT. The College Board's test prep books has practice tests in it, but the Kaplan's practice tests are a good way to see if the material in the College Board book can be used to take practice tests from other texts, not just their own. Also, you should try to use books more than online tools because the SAT is A LOT of writing, and it would help you get used to the test if you practice the same way the test is administered. I hope this helps!

Sylvia, there are several great prep books for the SAT, and you should study with one. Kaplan 12 Practice Tests for the SAT and the Official SAT Study Guide are great. But, the most important element in learning to test for the SAT is practice. You need to learn to test for a long period of time, learn to time yourself, and learn the best way to test for you.

Hi Sylvia. Having used MANY books with my students over the years, I've found like most things the decision comes down to your needs:
If you'd like a book to walk you through test-taking strategies in sort of a fun way, Princeton Review's books are best. They are a little lighter & easier to get through.
If you want those same strategies but minus entertainment, Kaplan's books will work for you.
If you mainly want practice-practice-practice, books from Barron's or the College Board will suit you. A note of caution though: the strategies these books provide are not nearly as efficient as those offered by Princeton Review or Kaplan. Those 2 companies turn the test upside-down to get you better results, faster.
Good luck!
