James Brooks is looking for a Spanish tutor in Amarillo, TX 79109
Posted: Sep 18th 2014 at 10:29 PM
I am an older person who has always wanted to learn Spanish. My wife and I were in Spain a few years ago, and we were embarrassed because our Spanish skills were so terrible. I am more interested in learning conversational Spanish, and not only book Spanish. We have many Spanish speaking individuals in our city, and I hope someone will take the challenge to help me learn Spanish. James
About Amarillo, TX
With a total population of 173,627 residents, the city of Amarillo, Texas is the largest city by population in the Texas panhandle and the 11th largest city in Texas. Originally named Oneida, “Amarillo,” which is Spanish for “yellow,” is affectionately referred to as “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” The city grew up as a result of the Texas cattle industry, benefiting from the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad Company, which connected Amarillo to its railroad network.
Now, the city of Amarillo is home to a wide array of industries. It is known as the “Helium Capital of the World” for an abundant helium field under the city, and more recently it has taken on the nickname “Rotor City, USA” for the production of the V-22 Osprey, a unique helicopter/airplane hybrid developed by Boeing, which is now being manufactured in Amarillo. The city is also home to a large meat packing industry, left over from its older years as a cattle city, as well as the Pantex facility, which is the only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility in the country. These diverse economic sectors make Amarillo the economic hub for the panhandle of Texas.
Given the flat, dry landscape and hot climate, Amarillo possesses an arid complexion that gives it a quintessential Texas identity. The Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a popular destination in Amarillo and the second largest canyon system in the United States, behind the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Some of the surrounding towns and cities near Amarillo include: Lake Tanglewood, Washburn, Timbercreek Canyon, Cuyler, Bishop Hills, Bushland, Wildorado, Umbarger, Palisades, and Lark.
