About Toledo, OH

Named after the Spanish city of the same name, Toledo, Ohio sits on the western edge of Lake Erie and shares a border with the State of Michigan. Unlike other mid-sized cities, Toledo features two distinct industrial concentrations. First, it is known chiefly as the “Glass City,” since it is famous for its innovations and manufacturing of glass products. Windshields, windows, glass bottles, glass art, and various other glass-related construction materials are still manufactured in Toledo, and the city is host to some of major glass-making manufacturers, such as Owens-Corning, Libbey Glass, and Pilkington North America. The Toledo Museum of Art chronicles the history of glass making in the city with a comprehensive exhibit dedicated to glass art.

For a long time, Toledo was also known as being “The Auto Parts Capital of the World. Early on during the boom of the automotive industry, many automobile parts manufacturers got their start in Toledo, such as Electric AutoLite, Champion Spark Plug, and Questor. Most of these companies have relocated their headquarters in recent years, however the automotive trade is still well represented in the city through the manufacturing of Jeeps, which has gone on since 1941.
