The city of Vallejo is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, just north of San Pablo Bay. With a population of 116,760 residents, it is one of the larger cities in and around the San Francisco metropolitan area. Sometimes referred to as “Valley-Joe,” “V-Towns,” or “The V,” the city is home to a popular Six Flags Theme Park. Vallejo is a well-rounded city, with a diverse economic base, thus inspiring the city’s motto: “City of Opportunity.” A popular ferry runs from Vallejo across the bay into San Francisco, giving tourists and residents alike the opportunity to traverse the bay in order to reach Six Flags. The city is home to a host of well-respected museums and art establishments, as well as a few colleges and universities, including the California Maritime Academy, the Vallejo Center campus of Solano Community College, and Touro University.

Vallejo takes its name from the famous Spanish General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. He was originally a Spanish citizen who served as a General in the Mexican army. Later on, he was instrumental in transitioning California into a U.S. state. The city of Vallejo was named after him in honor of his achievements.
