Hi,

I am a Barnard graduate and a current doctoral candidate. I have over four years of experience of one-on-one tutoring for elementary, high school and college students in reading, writing and language skills. I also have experience working in classroom settings both as a volunteer for Peace by PEACE, an organization that sends college students to Harlem classrooms to teach peace resolution skills, and as an Assistant Teacher at the Toddler Center of Barnard College.

I have been trained to tutor in reading and writing skills and have a lot of experience working with individuals who have various learning disabilities. As a Writing Fellow in Barnard Writing Center, I worked with peers to articulate thoughts, improve essay writing skills, and to gain the confidence in their writing voice. I also worked exclusively for one year with a student with learning disabilities to improve her writing skills and to manage stress and workload of college. I have worked with a high school student to manage her school work, particularly in preparing for final exams. I have also worked with an eighth grade student in reading, math, and general homework help.

For each student I work to devise a strategy that will both help the student with the task at hand, as well as develop skills to succeed in the future. Every individual has different learning styles and I spend the first few sessions trying to understand the student's strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies and tailor the focus and strategies of each session accordingly.
