I started as a Math tutor in Golden West College's Math Department. Realizing then how much I liked teaching, I expanded into tutoring History, English, and Political Science through the recommendations of my professors at GWC. After graduating Golden West with an AA in Mathematics and Music, I continued there to earn an Instructional Aide Certificate in Mathematics and Phonics. My main concentrations were "Mathophobia" and teaching illiterate adults how to read.
At the University level, I continued my studies in Education and Psychology and graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies. During my undergraduate and graduate tenure, I continued to accept a number of teaching and tutoring opportunities through UCR. In Graduate School, I earned two teaching credentials--one in Multiple Subjects (Elementary Credential) and the other in Mathematics (Single Subject Credentials).
I have Taught at the High School, Middle, and Elementary Level both publicly and privately for over 20 years. I really enjoy the opportunity to teach on a one-on-one basis because it allows me to be truly effective and to really get through to my students without the usual distractions present in the regular classrooms.
If I was to describe my teaching style it would be a dialogue model using a diagnostic prescriptive approach. I have devised numerous screening device in phonics (Phonics Inventory) and mathematics (basic-calculus)that can show me exactly where a students is and where they need help. From there I can help them move forward through patient question-and-answer instruction.
I do not lecture, I assist, inform, and correct.
