I prize interdisciplinary skills above all; mostly, because that is what I excel in. I have studied many different theoretical approaches, mostly in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Physical Sciences. I try to impart these interdisciplinary skills upon the students I tutor to make them very well-rounded. From this strong foundation, an understanding about any subject can be more easily attained. I currently also operate a small farm utilizing rotational pasture grazing techniques with minimal inputs. Sustainable technologies and alternative energy is a side interest of mine that has led me to Earthships, one the most (if not, the most) truly sustainable house on the planet. I have a B.A. in History with an Anthropology and Geography minor, after I was a Music Education major for one year on percussion. I have done marching band in high school and college, played in jazz band and wind ensemble. I now have an M.A. in Geography, where I did my thesis using Historical Geographic Information Systems to plot the performance tour of a white Virginian banjo player in the 1840s across the Eastern American Seaboard. Here s the link: http://libres.uncg.edu/ir/asu/f/Bowman,%20Lucas_2010_Thesis.pdf While tutoring, I encourage students to figure ideas out for themselves. Ideally, I corral students into asking certain questions about their subject, which they investigate further. However, I proffer particular information and other questions to help fuel student's mind into asking these questions. If a student does not ask questions, there is no need for an answer. Learning is about asking your own questions and finding your own answers. I currently tutor Anthropology, Biology, English, Geography, History, Music, Physical Science and Sociology at Frederick Community College. I have taken college level courses in all of these subjects. I practice a Chinese moving meditation called Qi Gong. It is essentially breathing techniques incorporated with slow, flowing movements.
