Special Needs: ?
My name is Emmy Haskett and I have over four years of private tutoring experience. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology and social theory, and English Literature in 2011.
My teaching philosophy is highly personalized. I believe that each student learns differently, and it is always my goal to get to know them as individuals and work together to create a successful learning environment. This approach is particularly important for students with learning disabilities, or other special needs. I have experience with students who have ADD, Visual Perceptual Disorder, and vision impairment, and I found that patience and collaboration (between tutor, student, and family) was the best teaching philosophy. I currently work part-time for a tutoring company that focuses on students with behavioral and learning dissabilities, and focuses on executive functioning strategies and techniques.
Tutoring is more than a job for me. I am passionate about education, and working closely with individual students lets me see them grow and change. My true strength as a tutor lies in my ability to make my students feel comfortable, and to nurture confidence not only in academic settings, but also in everyday life. I know that a tutor can be more than just a teacher, and I have had very close relationships with my students and their families in the past.
