I am a friendly, intelligent tutor with a deep understanding of the process of learning. I have an M.A. Education from Oberlin College, where I studied various teaching methodologies and taught in classrooms of children age 5 - 10. I have also taught students up to age 15 and as young as six months in music, theater, and dance. I use a student-centered approach to teaching and tutoring. I work with students and families to identify exactly what the student needs to be successful, and craft sessions accordingly.

If you are seeing music lessons - I have played music all my life. I have played in over 10 bands, playing folk, rock, punk, indie, bluegrass, jazz and old-time music. I sing and play piano, flute, clarinet, banjo, guitar, ukulele, fiddle. I also write and arrange music. My music teaching approach is develop technical abilities in a student, while simultaneously helping my students find what it is they love about music. As a working musician, I understand the skills that one needs to play music with other people. My teaching incorporates improvisation, ear-training, jamming, and chart-reading. I emphasize the joy, playfulness and emotion of music in my teaching.
