Special Needs: ?
I am a recent college graduate looking to help students of all ages in need of tutoring. A little history about me: I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting in 2012. Moreover, while enrolled in this time intensive training program, I completed additional coursework in history, English, and philosophy. During my time in college, I spent two summers working as a teaching assistant facilitating learning for high school students. In the summers of my middle and high school years, I volunteered in the public school enrichment program and assisted with the instruction of math, reading, and writing to elementary school students.
No amount of words can convey my outstanding work ethic, sense of discipline, and ability to make learning approachable and enjoyable for students of all ages. That being said, in terms of my teaching philosophy, I believe in meeting the student where they are in their learning journey. Simply put: good teachers provide guidance, not answers. Obviously, I believe that learning should always be fun when possible. However, even more so than that, a student must be able to see for him/herself how valuable their developing skills are. There is no greater reward for me than a student’s personal recognition of the fact that they have grown in some way. Furthermore, I believe imposing my own way of doing things on a student is harmful, and thus I adapt and adjust my style to whomever I am working with. I am very good at identifying a student’s strengths and interests and utilizing those in order to overcome roadblocks along the way. It is in this individualization of instruction that, I believe, sets me apart from my colleagues.
On a personal note, and in closing, I have been the student of some wonderful teachers in my life, and so I understand the incredible influence instructors have on their pupils. It is an honor to be a tutor, and it is why I love doing what I do so much.
