After graduating from Colorado College with a BA in mathematics, I taught math for two years in Colorado. I had tremendous success with both my students and other students that came to me for extra help. I recently moved back to Seattle and I am excited to help students here with their math studies!
My greatest strength as a tutor is my ability to explain a conceptual difficulty from several perspectives. I approach every concept and every practice problem from both a formulaic perspective and a critical thinking perspective. I provide a concept-specific recipe that can be memorized and easily used, and I teach logic and reasoning skills that allow a student to accomplish the same task without a formulaic recipe.
Every student that has dedicated significant time to tutoring with me (i.e. an hour or more per week) has increased their test scores by 15 to 30 percentage points. Phone calls from excited, thankful parents always made my week. From 7th graders to college seniors, I have been able to help students achieve the success they crave.
