First of all, let me say I enjoy tutoring very much. I worked as a tutor while I earned my BA, tutoring English composition, grammar, and English as a second language. Being able to express yourself well, especially in a written format, is a key skill in almost every subject from high school level on. I have been working part-time as a nanny for an 11 year old and a 15 year old for the past year, and have done more tutoring with them in a variety of subjects. While I could just lecture students on the topics they are working on during a tutoring session, I find it much more effective to conduct the session as a dialogue. Typically, I ask students questions to allow them to come to their own conclusions and arrive at solutions in a more organic way that stays with them long term. I have been published in several newspapers and also edited the first draft of a business book for a former boss. While English is my tutoring forte, I am comfortable with other subjects, as well, especially high school and college level biology/zoology/anatomy, and I have a degree in dance and worked as a professional dancer and dance teacher for nearly two decades. I currently have my own practice as a horse massage therapist and perform tutoring and freelance writing/editing/proofreading services part-time to stay out of the 9-5 grind.
